A Little About It

The Westborough State Hospital was an mental hospital built near Lake Chauncy in Westborough, Massachusetts. It is sat on over 600 acres of land with nearly 50 different structures and buildings. The hospital was completely shut down towards the end of 2010. The last of the adult patients were moved on April 11, 2010 to Worcester where a new hospital was being built. The remaining 30 patients, all adolescents, were moved to the new hospital in Worcester in June of that year.

About The Writer

In honor of the 300th Anniversary of Westborough, Massachusetts, the 100th town incorporated into Massachusetts, my High School History Class is researching various historical aspects of the town. The Westborough State Hospital spoke out to me and I started to become very interested in the history of this "Insane Asylum".
